I had always wanted to be in gymnastics. All through elementary school, my friends and I would practice our splits, cartwheels, back bends and walk-overs, round-offs, and back handsprings every recess. I think I was pretty good for just teaching myself. I loved watching gymnastics on tv, especially during the Olympics. I was never enrolled as a child but when I was 18 I decided, “What the heck. I’m going to take a few classes and see how it goes.” Yeah, I was definitely too old by then. My flexibility was much more limited and my ankles hurt every time I landed. Thus ended my gymnastics career. So that’s why I now do yoga, the next best thing for women of a certain age.
Anyway, two of Madeleine’s friends held their birthday party last year at Gymcats in Lehi. When I saw the place it looked like so much fun! In January and February I enrolled Madeleine and Caroline into a 7 week gymnastics session. Madi had loved ballet but she really loves gymnastics. She says it’s just like ballet, but more fun.
Caroline was not too happy for the first half of her first class. She wouldn’t leave her coach’s lap. She warmed up, though, and then loved it just as much as Madeleine.
There is a viewing area where I would sit and watch during class. My favorite parts were watching Madeleine swing from the rings and watching Caroline do her little stretching routine. So cute!!
We took the kids twice to open gym night where they could just run around and do all the apparatuses. Yes, that is the correct plural form of apparatus. I checked 😉

All the kids love the foam pit!! The platform the older kids are jumping from is probably 15 feet high.
Madeleine’s favorite is the balance beam.
I think we’d all love to sign them up for it again sometime. Next up is swimming over the summer and then Madeleine wants to try her legs in soccer!
