Way back on the 4th of July I (Rob) was really needy to go on a hike and get out of the city. I love hiking and have always loved to hike. As my kids are getting a little older I want to do as much of this as possible. Here is Madi in her hiking gear and all ready for the hike. 🙂
We hit little cottonwood canyon and parked at the lodge at Alta. We were shuttled up to the trailhead and got underway immediately. The smoke in the air from all the recent fires was a huge problem for air quality (not to mention the light was bad at that time of day) so scenic photos were pretty much out of the question. You have to love Nate’s goofy expression in this one.
Little Cara started the hike on her own running like a little spitfire but ended up spending most of the hike on my back. I was surprised she made it as far as she did. The hike was wonderful and spent in great company. The flowers were blooming. The geology of that area is just stunning to take in.
We made our way up to the lake and didn’t have too much whining for quite some time. Here are a few from the hike.
Here is one of Cara and me. Don’t we both have such stylish bangs?
Hey Nate, Try to stay on the trail. Sure thing dad…
After our ascent we reached the lake and it was time for tons of fun.
Here is a cute video of us playing at the lake.
The lake was kind of crowded (being the 4th and all) and the kids made some friends. Here they are completing their ultimate task (video).
Madi also had a great time playing in the water and on the rocks. Check out this video.
And now some pictures of Cara.
We finished off the hike by picking a couple wild flowers while waiting at the shuttle stop. A perfect day in the mountains with the family.
