Crazy Vegas Trip

Fountain Front

Where do I start? This was a pretty funny trip that Teresa Hunt and I took when we were 16 years old. Let me tell you up front, I don’t know what we were thinking. We didn’t really get into much trouble or anything, but believe me, the opportunities were there unfortunately. How about if I start from the beginning? But first a disclaimer: some events have been left out…but don’t use your imagination too much.

So Teresa and I had just gotten our driver’s licenses and thought it’d be cool to go to Vegas (we told our parents we were staying with friends in St. George). We left early on Friday, checked into a hotel in St. George using our community college ids. That night we drove to Vegas and walked up and down the Strip all night taking pictures and goofing off. Finally, at around 4am we decided we needed to get back to St. George. We were so tired that we went to our car parked in the Caesar’s Palace parking lot and fell asleep for about an hour. Then we started driving back, but being inexperienced drivers we couldn’t even find the freeway entrance. We drove around Las Vegas for about 2 hours before finally making it to I-15 North. We were so tired! At this point we had only gotten an hour of sleep since 5am the morning before. We each had to pull off to the shoulder every 20 minutes or so all the way back to St. George so we wouldn’t fall asleep at the wheel. One time we both had to close our eyes for a few minutes before we started off again. Very, very, very dangerous. We were really stupid. Then, the car started overheating! We made it to Mesquite and stopped at a gas station. After lifting up the hood, we just stood there, dumbfounded. Like we knew what to do! Luckily, someone was kind enough to tell us to just put water in the radiator. We finally made it back to our hotel, slept for 3 more hours, then head home. That was when we got our navels pierced!

Well, kind of a long story, but fairly entertaining. Looking back on those teenage years I realize how blessed I am to have gotten out alive (way too many dangerous situations for a young teenage girl to put herself in). Well, kids do crazy things. I can only hope that Nathan takes after his dad instead. Hahaha. Yeah…..right 😉
